Taking French in high school was sort of my teenage rebellion. (My young adult rebellion is Lady Gaga. My parents are far less pleased with that one.) I've come close to regretting it (French, that is) a few times. But I've been lucky to have some really good teachers. I still talk to Mme Oyler (A Belge who had a Parisian father and an Italian mother, but was born in Kenya). But I still wish sometimes I'd taken Spanish. But then Saturday rolls around.
That's when I watch Séraphine. Her mom (my friend Sabrina) is French, so Séraphine speaks both English and French. It's usually English with me, no matter what language I speak to her in, but sometimes she'll slip into the cutest franglais you've ever heard. And she's a sweetheart. Last week when I babysat, Sabrina came home right after I put Séraphine to bed and I ended up staying until 11:30. It was probably the best Saturday I 'd had in a long time.
(She's a total ham for the camera. I plan to take full advantage of that once I get my fancy DSLR.)
