Inspiration/Edification

I filled my journal this weekend. I was reading through it and found some great quotes I've accumulated taking notes in church meetings and devotional. Here are some of my favorites.
"Meekness[...]is a posture of kindness." -Neal A. Maxwell

"Our faith is not in the weather." -Kim B. Clark

"We are not left to our own devices." -Walter F. Gonzalez

"No one ever gets anywhere in life with greatness without being picky." -Dallin's director at Colburn

"No failure ever need be final." -Thomas S. Monson

"Don't look ahead of the pain. Just get through the day." -D. Todd Christofferson

"The mustard seed is not just tiny, it is dynamic." -Kim B. Clark

"Jesus went about doing good. Most of us just go about."

"We beat up on Martha for being so busy." -Julie B. Beck

"Love your enemies, for they point out your faults."

"In order to get the prince, you have to be a princess."

"God is in the people business." -President Packard

There were also a few of my own quotes that I particularly liked.
"My life will be so much better when he realizes we should be in love."
A few days later...
"I've decided that falling in love with [him] would be an awful idea."

"The difference between studio recordings and live shows is that you listen to one and feel the other."

"Then the Pharisees came a-creepin'."

"I was on the treadmill for like five minutes and my body was like 'forget this, I need some sleep.'"

Flashback.

I'm exhausted today and still have some homework. So you get to read something I wrote back in senior year for the cute kid in my AP French class.

What a Smile Can Do, 14 October 2008

from across a room i couldn’t help but notice
your smile.
how could i have never noticed
your smile?
it betrays a subtle something in you,
this smile.
a pure bright sweetness shows itself
in your smile.
and i find myself with
a sudden smile of my own.
don’t stop. it darkens the room
when you don’t smile.
i’d really love to know you - the boy
with the perfect smile.
but i’m having such a hard time. why?
how can i be afraid of such a smile?
maybe it’s because
you won’t smile for me.
after all,
who can smile for a smitten fool?
wait.
word on the street is you can.

If you could send this back to Valentine's 2009, I'd be much obliged.

Dear Brooke,

Good for you for telling that guy you had work today instead of letting him take you to a movie. You're right about him.

But don't think that means you're out of the woods yet. Prince Charming isn't going to be at high school because Prince Charming is, well, a man. You go to school with little boys. Even at college--I'll let you be surprised at which one you end up at--there will still be plenty of boys. Also, it turns out it's not common for a guy to be 6-foot-anything outside of California, so don't get hung up on appearances. Not that you do, but just keep it in mind.

Just be patient. Seriously. No one likes a bitter teenager.

You are onto something with that boy you like now, though. He's definitely your type, but it has nothing to do with his race, I promise you. Leave him be because he probably does drugs, but keep that type in mind.

Happy Valentines Day, do something fun!

Love,
Brooke

NaNoWriMo. Bring it.

Today (or yesterday, if we're going to be technical), on a whim, I decided to take part in National Novel Writing Month. I went to the official website and signed up to be an official participant. By the end of the month, I hope to have 50,000 words written. I'm finally going to play with a story idea I had my senior year in high school. I remember it coming to me in AP French, along with an important character's name. It might end up being a little dumb, but I'm excited for the ride.

Also, don't forget to vote!
